What is metals?
Precious metals are physical commodities valued for their scarcity, industrial uses and long history as stores of value. The four metals most actively traded as CFDs are gold (XAU), silver (XAG), platinum (XPT) and palladium (XPD), each quoted against the US dollar in dollars per troy ounce.
Gold has the deepest market and is treated by traders as a hedge against inflation, currency debasement and geopolitical risk its price tends to rise when real interest rates fall or when investors lose confidence in fiat currencies. Silver moves more dramatically (often 2-3× gold's volatility) and combines monetary and industrial demand.
Platinum and palladium are predominantly industrial metals, used in catalytic converters, electronics and clean-tech manufacturing, so their prices are influenced more by global manufacturing cycles and supply disruptions (notably South African and Russian production) than by monetary policy.
